Holy
Spirit Parish began in 1941. It began as the Lulu Island Mission
started by Father Edward Malayter of the Mercy Fathers. The first
parishioners were mainly Slovaks who built the first little church
in 1942 and the Holy Ghost School and Hall in 1947.
Later Italian Catholic families settled in great numbers in
Queensborough and in 1956 the parish was handed over to the
Scalabrinians. They built the present Rectory in 1964 and the church
in 1978/79.
Over the years Queensborough, New Westminster, B.C., has undergone
and continues to undergo great changes especially in the
demographics. Our Church reflects this change.
